METHIONINE

In commercial poultry diets, Met is usually the first limiting amino acid and is commonly supplemented as dry DL-Met. Methionine is an essential amino acid for all animals, but they do not produce it themselves, meaning they have to get it from their feed. The methionine content of natural ingredients is generally low, so to meet the animals’ requirements, additional methionine must be provided in their feed as a nutritional feed additive. Methionine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that is essential for healthy and productive poultry, and is important for many different functions in the body. By producing methyl groups, methionine is responsible for a variety of metabolic reactions.Methionine deficiency in animals can cause muscle atrophy, slow growth, decreased bone strength, and fatty liver. Deficiency of DL-Methionine also causes  poor feathering, decreased egg production of Layer, cannibalism, decreased feed efficiency, decreased weight & size of eggs.
